About Coats for a Cure
Coats for a Cure was founded by a group of Radiation Therapists in the Miami Valley who witnessed firsthand how many of their cancer patients arrived at or left treatment without adequate clothing. Through daily interactions with patients during some of their most vulnerable moments, they recognized that warmth and dignity are essential components of healing. What began as an effort to support cancer patients quickly revealed a much broader need across hospital settings, as patients from many departments faced similar challenges.
In response, Coats for a Cure expanded its mission to partner with local hospitals to establish Care Closets stocked with warm clothing. By equipping healthcare staff with immediate resources to address patients’ basic needs, the organization helps ensure comfort, dignity, and health equity for individuals throughout the Miami Valley.

Mission
Our mission is rooted in promoting health equity and accessibility throughout the Miami Valley region, recognizing that meeting basic needs is a critical part of comprehensive patient care. When patients arrive without adequate clothing due to crisis, homelessness, unexpected hospitalization, or financial strain, a simple coat, sweater, or pair of socks can make a profound difference.
By equipping healthcare teams with the resources to respond quickly and compassionately, Coats for a Cure helps bridge a critical gap between medical care and basic human needs.
Rooted in community partnerships and driven by empathy, we believe warmth is more than comfort—it’s a vital step toward healing.
Vision
Our vision is to create a healthcare system in the Miami Valley where health equity includes meeting basic human needs, ensuring warmth, comfort, and compassion for every patient.
We envision a future where compassion extends beyond medical care, and every patient has access to the essentials that support healing and hope.
